Breakthrough in Rotator Cuff Repair Surgery - "Rotium Patch"

Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair using the new "Rotium Patch"

Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair using the new Rotium Biowick, "Rotium Patch",  by Atreon Orthopedics. It's a synthetic scaffold that is placed between the rotator cuff and bone to augment healing and strength of the repair. Recently approved by the FDA this product promotes migration of stem cells for healing. Prior studies showed that at 6 weeks there was at least a 50% increase in strength of the repair compared to a repair without Rotium . At 12 weeks there was an increase of 75%! I have been using this product over the last year with great results.

Re-tear rates after rotator cuff repair surgery can be anywhere between 10-90% depending on many factors that effect healing. With this new biologic technology we are dramatically impoving the healing of the tendon which reduces the re-tear rate significantly. This translates to faster return to work and activities with much less chance of re-injury and surgery in the future. www.columbusshoulderdoc.com
